Replacing ladder...what to use to fill in existing mounting holes?

Hey guys,

I'm replacing the ladder on my 1995 Four Winns ski boat. The original folding ladder is 13 1/2" wide and they just don't make them that wide anymore. I purchased a 4 step telescoping ladder and I have to drill new holes on the swim platform to mount it.

For the existing holes, should I just fill them up with 5200?

Thanks!

A lot will depend on where the existing holes are, and what your swim platform is made of. (Wood, fiberglass, polypropylene, etc.)

I take it you will NOT be mounting the new ladder in the existing holes. If that is true, then either 5200, Marine Tex, PC-11 or you could use PB and then cover with Gelcoat paste. Just depends on how picky you are with how it will look in the end.

Here are a couple of pictures. The first pic is just there to give a better idea of what the back looks like but the ladder is on the other side. The second pic is of the old mounting brackets. The width of the new brackets will measure 11 3/4" (about two inches narrower).

Again, It all depends On how picky you are on the look of the final product. My choice would be PC-11. Easy to work with, White, and when it dries, it's Rock Hard. It's on my boat at ALL times. Cures underwater too!!!;)
