Replacing impeller on 1989 Evinrude 48 - DIY or?

I just got this motor and - thus far - have not done any serious work on it beyond changing the lower unit oil.

I'm going to order an impeller, but am wondering if I should do it myself or pay a shop to do it.

I hear it's a little more difficult on OMC engines than Mercury due to the driveshaft?

I can't seem to find any good DIY's online.

I have plenty of tools - but again, no experience with outboards (yet).

It's really not too tough of a job. I have done it before with a little guidance from one of my buddies with a lot of experience with outboards. So if I can do it then most people shouldn't have too hard of a time. Then again this was not on the same motor as yours. It was on a 91 Johnson 25 HP. You can purchase a service manual that will help you with a lot also.

Get an OEM factory service manual and you should have no probs at all. There's also a lot of info in it if you run into probs later on.

I'll take a look at the service manual, thanks everyone.
