Replacing hydraulic drum brake assembly

Got a quick question for you guys. The drum brake assembly on the right side of my boat trailer is all rusty, corroded and non-functional inside. My question is, can I just buy the new backing plate and brake assembly and continue to use my existing drum & hub, or do I need to replace the whole thing?

You can, but I would inspect your bearings, seal and maybe have the drum turned if need be. Backing plates are can be changed easy enough. I have found 10" backing plates on sale for $46.95 each, which I think is an awesome deal. I'm sure you can find them locally if you need them in a hurry.

Thanks, that's actually the exact same assembly I was looking at ordering. I just replaced my bearings, races & seals and the hub & drum itself seems to be in pretty good condition. I noticed that the trailer seemed to pull to one side when braking, but this was the first chance I've had to tear into it. It's a new to me boat & trailer that I've only had out a couple of times.
