I have an 18' fish n ski boat by larson. Why Larson would put carpet in this kind boat i have no idea!?!? Anyways, i might pull the carpet, trowel on a quality adheadsive over the existing floor and lay on 3/8 azek sheets(4x8). They do make 1/2" and 3/4 sheets but would not be necessary as this is not structural.(the wood floor beneath is structural) Obviously there is going to be alot of measuring, templating and cutting involved before hand, but i think has the potential to work out well for a nice carpetless, easy to clean floor. It will aslo help water proof and preserve your existing floor. I think the key is gonna be to make the cuts right to eliminate any gaps. I dont plan on painting. Paint is just another maintance chore. The makers of azek claim it does not need to be painted. Anyone ever do something like this? did the Azek hold up well for any lengthy periods of time?

The only adhesive that works is pvc adhesive to glue it to itself. I doubt it will stick to anything "troweled" down and the larger sheets 4x8 will get super slippery.

It is simply starboard that was not made for a walking surface since it gets too slippery. At an average cost of $100/sheet why not go with durabak for the deck or nautilex vinyl?

PVC plastic does not appeal to me in any boat and even less in a fishing boat.

Bob, i know the durabak is a roll on product but what about the nautilex vinyl? which do you find better for this type of application. My main concern is long term durability & proffesional looking and easy to clean.

I'm a big fan of Azek for trim and small stuff. For boat floor I think Bob is right about the slip hazard. Also it expands and contracts quite a bit compared to wood, so that may bring some issues. Nautilex is a thin, very tough sheet good that comes in a roll, I used it on my cabin roof. I would recommend the adhesive that is made for it, I used 3M spray adhesive, it didn't work so well sticking it on aluminum. Defender sells it at very good prices, they would probably send you a sample to check out.
