Has anyone replaced a blower motor on a 2003 18.5 sea ray with the 4.3 lt....We just bought the boat and everything seems to be working fine except for the blower motor. Just wondering where I would locate it and any tips on how to access it. Thanks in advance

Re: replacing blower motor

Not sure about your Sea-Ray, but most generally they are in the engine compartment with drier looking hoses hooked up to it. One hose in the bilge area and other end to a outside vent.

Take the old one off and size it up to a new one. Order here on iboats or any online boat parts place or your local merc dealer should have it in stock.

Check to see if its a fuse inline or panel. Check for a loose ground wire or corroded wires also. If it still dont work may need a new one.

Good Luck!

I'm not familiar with your boat but I do know that starting it without first running the blower is a very bad idea. Gas fumes sit low in your bilge and can explode if not vented prior to starting your engine.

If you can see into your engine bay you will see what looks a lot like and clothes dryer hose. The blower will be connected to that hose ,either inline or connected to the transom and vent directly out through it's opening which is usually at top rear of boat.

The good news is that they start at about $30 and are easy to replace.

Again, don't be tempted to start it until you get that blower going

Absolutely check for voltage at the motor before you go replacing the assembly!

Re: replacing blower motor

When we had it in the driveway I noticed it wasnt working. Checked the fuse and seen it was burnt so replaced fuse to try again and it blew the fuse right of way. I'm guessing it will need replacing. The previous owner started it off the trailer when I backed in the water for a water test. Pretty new to inboards and had no idea about the blower motors... I will be checking this out tomorrow. thanks again

Re: replacing blower motor

Blowing fuses somtimes means a bad ground -

If you can get to the wires close to the blower motor, not the dash wires! It has a positive and ground wire, strip alittle insalation off the wires and hook up jumper wires from the battery to the blower and see if she turns, if it does motor is good and that means you have a wire that is shorting out. Could be from the blower to the dash. Need to check out the complete wire loop.

I only know how to replace the blowers on a 1991 Formula 242 with a 7.4L . . . it is about a '2' on a '10' scale.

Attwood makes some nice blowers. Usually the blowers would be mounted on the transom. Splice the wires and use heat shrink and you should be good to go.

Re: replacing blower motor

A fuse blows and creates an open circuit that stops amperage flow. Blown fuses are caused when there is a short or a very amperage draw on the system.

A bad ground is also an open. No amperage will be flowing anywhere, there for it can not blow a fuse.

Just keeping the OP from wasting his time.

Bad ground will prevent the bilge pump from operating but it won't blow the fuse. The rest of your post was accurate.
