2008 Mercruiser 5.0

got a serious oil leak so needing remove engine to replacie oil pan, gasket, and bolts.
- need recommendation on where to purchase replacement parts
- oem vs after market oil pan
- oem vs. aftermarket gasket
- ordering hardware, what's up with the hardware, because the parts diagram is confusing.... bolts, studs & screws, are they both used?
- suggestions, comments, recommendations appreciated
Thanks in advance!

gasket go genuine , aftermarket will work if OEM is unavailable .
bolts and hardware should be fine wire brushed and painted..

have you pin pointed the exact area the leak is coming from ,its a good idea to do this before speculating .

GM dealer for oil pan
Felpro, Mahle, or GM for gaskets
should be able to use your existing hardware. if not, GM dealer

remember, its a GM motor that Mercruiser simply bolted their exhaust and accessories to.

Front timing cover is plastic some have a crank trigger sensor that are one time use. If you can find GM parts they are OEM with one less (merc mark-up)

So if I'm understanding correctly, I can purchase an 5.0 oil pan and gasket from the GM dealer as well as hardware if need, correct? I already installed the timing cover because the original pladtic one developed a 10-12" crack in the front that was pouring oil out thinking that would solve the leak but after a test run oil was seeping out of the right side midway where oil pan meets the block thus the need to pull the engine- I have a metal A-frame engine lift so it shouldn't be to difficult.. Again, thanks friends!

If you use in salt water, perhaps powder coated aftermarket? I'd prefer aluminum with heavy primed and painted.

Can I swap out the oil deflector or do I need to purchase a new one?

Windage tray. It's in the crank case bolted to the bearing caps. No need to change.

Oil control baffles will be welded to the pan and should be in the new pan
