I am trying to find out what the battery requirements are for a Mercury Bigfoot 60. I know has to be a Cranking/Starting battery, not deep cycle. My big question is how many CCA are required ? I "think" it is 485, but I want to find out for sure before I replace it. The current one was 800, and fairly expensive, so if a 500 would do it I would like to know.
Thanks

A lot of other things in the boat will have a BIGGER effect on the battery size you SHOULD buy. Also if you do a winter storage. Leave boat UNCOVERED during rain storms ?

I know has to be a Cranking/Starting battery, not deep cycle.
Why is that?
As long as the cranking amperage meets min. spec, no problem.

The recommend battery for my 200 HP is 500 CCA above 32F, 675 CCA below 32 F
I run two (2) 600 CCA, 160 RC deep cycle batteries. Have never had an issue starting down to 20F. In fact, you get increased battery life out of a deep cycle from the increased duty cycles

Deep Cycles are abused to the maximum in golf carts. And over loaded with 6 guys going up hills. Almost daily.

200 cca is plenty for that engine. Question is what else is on the battery and when was the last time you charged it......they do self discharge so the day before you go on an outing, get out your voltmeter and read the battery voltage....if not above 12.6 put it on the charger overnight.....an overlooked item many a mariner has regretted when at the launching ramp......
