The trailer is a 1995 Trailmaster 3500. Now that the boat is winterized, Im looking for projects to cure deferred maintenance. The boat jack seemed pretty rough, gritty when cranking it up. When I disassembled it, it looked like it was never greased after leaving the factory. I could have gone out and bought a new jack, but my experience has been they built things better 20-30 yrs ago vs everything made in China today for the least cost. Anyway, I wire brushed the screw, re-greased it and the bevel gears. The thrust bearing was trashed. It had no races, just a steel washer below and rode on the top plate of the tube. The new bearing has a race above and below. After surfing ebay, I found a thrust bearing for about $7 that fits the top of the screw, 1/2” in my case. Greased it up put it all back together and its smoother than new. I searched for a rebuild kit with no luck. after taking it all apart, the bearing is all you need. Well worth the $7. And the $50-80 I saved on buying a new jack, can be spent on the boat.
