What is the break in procedure after installing a new power steering pump on my 1999 Penta 5.0GL?

Make sure it's has fluid in it.

Ayuh,... I agree,... But, if you wanta get Technical,..

Fill it,... With the motor Off,.. turn it lock to lock several times, refill it,...
Then Go Boatin'...

then check the level and top off if needed...

haha thanks, unfortunately after $350 and the install, the steering is still difficult. Suggestions?

Ahhhhh, you replaced the pump because you thought it was why the steering was stiff. Your problem is probably corrosion where the steering cable goes through the aluminum tube through the power steering pump.
You need to disconnect the cable pull it out of the tube (Heat will help) and clean the corrosion out of it and lube it up.
Then it will steer easily.
