replaced gimbal bearing in merc alpha 1. cannot get alignment tool to engage with engine coupler at all. have tried to move bearing every way

replaced gimbal bearing in alpha outdrive. cannot get alignment tool to engage with engine coupler at all. tried to move gimbal bearing every way but no positive results.

any suggestions?

Was the old bearing destroyed or was the drive difficult to remove? If yes ,you have an engine alignment issue

How old is the boat? Sounds like something is amiss. A few pics would help I think, Some of the gimble area, transom, and engine areas.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,....... Did you inspect the rear motor mounts, to be sure they haven't collapsed,..??
Did you get the hardware stack in the right order,..??

Try beating alignment shaft side to side. Pray your transom is not rotten.

well the engine bearing is new .. did the bearing of the alignment rod tool inside of it ..did the rusting of the drive shaft outdrive leaking the bellows worn out and leak it ...

you probably figured it out by now but if you cant get the tool to go in take a 1" bar/tube and that will go into the coupler and give you a visual of which way you need to go
