replace impeller in '68 fastwin

Hi guys,
To replace the impeller in my '68 18 hp fastwin do I have to remove the power head like I did on my '60 5.5 fisherman, or just the lower unit?

Just the lower unit. Remove the oval plate from the side of the midsection for access to the shift rod coupling.

That's a relief. Learned a valuable lesson yesterday. Don't put laquer clear coat over enamel paint!!!!!! wrinkle, wrinkle, wrinkle!!!!

Be sure to remove one of the screws (I think the bottom one) completely in the shift rod coupling. It goes through a cutout in the rod, and just loosening it will not let it release.
