Hi,i recently bought a chrysler striper(15ft 1978)with a 50hp force on the back,i am very happy with the package but due to its age has a few cracks in the gel-coat(due to knocks and trailer roller pressure)and chips in the keel revealing the resin. What is the best/correct way to repair the hull, there are no leaks in the hull, the boat will be going into saltwater,is it just a case of filling the damaged areas will gel-coat?

Re: repairing cracks and chips

you will need to open the cracks up a bit to allow a filler of some sort (epi-fill from international is very good) to bond to the fiberglass, then you can sand it smoooooooth and apply flow-coat to restore you hull surface. You may have a bit trouble matching color exactly, but it will save your glass. Gel-coat is not the best option when repairing unless you cover the area coated with a film of some sort, it then makes it harder to get a smooth finish.
