ss180 ... are you going to dig out all that sprayed in insulation ? if its not wter logged id le t that stuff in there. the only bad thing about leaving it in is that you can gluvit the rivets and seems. most guys are using either the pink or blue styro that you can buy at lowes or home depot.

the transom ... if it were me ( which it will be soon ) id replace the whole transom.

SS180 go ahead and rip out the sprayed in stuff so you can get to all the seams and rivets with Gluvit . The fom of choice for Starcrafters around here is the pink foam sheets you can get at most home improvement stores ( its doesnt suck up water like other foams ).

Defintely replace the whole transom. Once rot starts it doesn't stop. Plus it could also be rotted in a critical area you can't see. Replacing the transom on a tinny is so easy you may as well do it.

repairable maybe?

Thanks to JimbC, i have a new transom put in from Nyloboard. i am going to get the decking placed on order in the next two weeks. The driver and passenger consoles were pretty weak and i was looking to buy news ones. Am i just going to have to build them? or am i able to get them from somewhere? almost forgot, i remember asking about the foam in the boat. is there really that big of a difference between the pour in foam the the pink/blue sheets of foam?

Re: repairable maybe?

I will get some pics, i have to buy a new chip thingy for the camera. Quick question: I was going to be ordering the decking and i called a boating store nearby and they said all they use is treated plywood from lowes or homedepot (since they put the carpeting on over the wood) i will obviously be putting carpeting back in the boat but my dilemma is do i need to use the Marine grade pressure treated that is 3 times as much a sheet or will the pressure treated from home depot or lowes work? (the nyloboard is unfortunatly to rich for my blood for the whole decking other wise i would order this) PLEASE HELP I WANT TO GET IT PURCHASED ASAP!!

Your Floor will take the most use and spills and water. Please do not go to all that work and use just the standard treated flooring. Good advice here is to listen to coments on what to use. The floor nees to be sealed. As a lot of moistur will lay between the carpet and the floor.

Re: repairable maybe?

Please don't quote me on this but what I have read is do not use PT wood because it has chemicals (copper) that may hurt the aluminum. I think EZ used it on his Jupiter before he knew this. Most people say to use marine grade, and yes its expensive. I have read a lot of guys resto's that use regular ply and seal it up real well. That is probably what I'll do. I'm sure if I can get 15 to 20 years out of that I'll be happy. Dale

Re: repairable maybe?

Yep, do not use PT anywhere near an aluminum boat. And contrary to popular belief.....marine grade ply is not treated. It simply has fewer voids and uses a better quality glue. I am personally using a decent exterior ply and sealing it completely with epoxy resin.

Yes I did use PT on my Jupiter because I didn't know any better. However it was also done right around the time when they were changing over to this new stuff. So I very well may have gotten lucky on that one. I do know they stuff I bought back then was much darker green than the new stuff so it very well may have been fine.

Re: repairable maybe?

well, sorry it took so long but here are some updated pics. am i going to indepth on the foam? Also, i am ataching a pic of th carpeting. why are there three different types on the boat? the walking area, under the seats, and on the wall. Just curious. i am about to put the carpet on order and i would like to know whether or not i need to order three different types of if i can just use one. i take criticism pretty well, especially since this is my first restore.

Foam job looks good. You can't have too much as long as you can get the floor back down. Carpet it up to you. It was probably replaced at different times. The carpet I'm using for my bow and stern casting decks and my side panels arrived today but I'm using marine vinyl for the floor.

Re: repairable maybe?

just a couple of shots. I put carpeting in the storage area. the rest of the decking isn't riveted down yet, i was just making sure they were cut to size correctly. I was a little upset when i was cutting the piece with the stringer holes cut out. I cut the holes just like the original piece because i just naturally assumed that the stringers actually went up and through the decking a little. So now i have to adjust a little to rivet the decking down. No biggie, just a minor set back. making progress now!

Re: repairable maybe?

Looking good there SS18:)

Did you seal the ply with epoxy or poly resin? Looks like you are doing a great job and well on your way. You are a couple steps ahead of me as I'm just now getting around to applying gluvit on my rivets and seams.

Keep up the good work, you'll be on the water before you know it:D

Re: repairable maybe?

would using bunk carpet on the sidewalls be a wise decision? i am trying to purchase the carpeting, i am getting 6' X 20', for the decking, but the side walls i am hoping i can just purchase the bunk carpeting.
