Repair Manual with CONFLICTING Info

I have a 1989, 80HP 3 Cyl. with a .066 main jet installed

My Seloc manual lists 2 DIFFERENT Main Carb Jets an '89 3cyl 80HP at sea level. One chart says .064 the other .072. My Serial is 0B166907.

Considering I have problems getting out of the hole.... I would guess I should have the .074???

Can anyone clarify which Main Carb jet is correct for my engine?

The .064 jet is for the older motors. Your's should be .072 main jets. Do yopu have the right prop on it? How many RPMs do you turn at WOT?

I actually just replaced my prop with a 4 blade 13 pitch rather than the old 3 blade 17 pitch with the hopes of being able to get a skiier out of the water without the engine stalling. Still no luck - still stalls. So out of desperation I revisited the basics to rebuild the carbs (for the 2nd time) and realized I had an out of spec main jet... regardless of which chart I referred to.

I will replace the mains with .072 and report on the results...

Correct jets are .064 for a 80hp, only the 70 & 90 use the .072 jets. The .066 will be fine with todays fuel and this will not cause your problem you have posted with getting out of hole. Check your compression and spark,sync and link the carbs. They serial number you posted is in the range for a 1987 engine, not a 1989 as it would start with 0C for a 1989....

Additional load of pulling up a skier can cause a bog ina 'normally' fine running motor due to the increased load requiring a slightly richer idle mixture for crisp acceleration.

If you WOT performance was within range those main jets may be fine for your application.
