I am renovating my 71 Glastron with a Mercruiser 165 inline 6. I am in need of help with the valve lash adjustment in that the Seloc manual does not show me, on each cylinder, which is Intake and which is Exhaust. I understand the procedure on a cold not running engine, and there are two stages of adjustment, one being TDC on the compression stroke with each cylinder either intake or exhaust or both adjusted, but I dont know which is which. Same with Stage two with rotor aligning with cylinder #6.
Could someone tell me from front of engine facing cylinder one which is intake and which is exhaust on each cylinder.

Thanks,

Dianne

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...

I haven't worked on a I-6 in awhile, but the exhaust valve lines up with the exhaust port on the manifold,...
Just as the intake valve lines up with the intake ports on the manifold...

Ok, still need help..first time ever adjusting valves, so this might be a small think to some, but after I have adjusted the valves according to the manual, is it right that the rockers, not the pushrods, still have some play in them, that is I can still jiggle them slightly from side to side?

When you are adjusting the valves, and they are loose. Move the push rod as stated in the manual and tighten down the rocker arm until the movement stops. Do this ONE TIME and one time only, do not repeat as your valves will end up too tight. From there, you turn the additional amount noted in your manual

Thanks for the help. I did follow exactly what the manual said, and I did only do the procedure one time, so therefore I'm assuming that the small amount of play in some of the rockers is acceptable. I guess I will find out when I start the engine and either hear her purr or click.
