Re: Renegotiate a contract?

I'm thinking he's making a lot more than $30/hr, probably more than double that if I'm reading the numbers correctly.

then that would make him highly paid and bring the % in line and be reasonable.

the original woman is gone according to him, she cannot place him in the same place where he is. you do not want to get betwen two contract shops, it's ugly and doesn't give you a warm fuzzy feeeling and generally at least one of them will black list you afterwards. been there done that, and it wasn't even my doing. still not fun.

No, she can't place him there, but since he is already contacting headhunters, why not contact one he trust/likes?
The contractor he works for doesn't have to know. Just saying its another resource.

Keep us posted hostage, inquiring minds want to know. :)

I get a kick out of people that think they are irreplacable.

By all means try to renegotiate. Be careful, however, as it is entirely possible you could find out the employer is the irreplacable one

I never said I was irreplaceable, however that is what my boss said. Also my manager has had open head count issues, since he is having issues replacing people, when someone leaves. He complains a bit about spending time going through resumes and not finding a good match.

Also the person who use to be my recruiter, went to a different company and does not do recruiting anymore. I contacted her a while back, didn't care so much for some of the other guys. One of them feels like a car sales man to me. Also I only wish I was making twice as much as $30/hour.

My job is a lot different than most other IT positions. We are a hybrid of a Project Managers, System Admins, and IT Architects. We have Sys Admins that work for us, we do the higher level stuff, and give them the more maintenance and solutions for a problem across an environment. We also work with the data centers and applications teams to make sure we have an environment that meets their needs and do configurations of Web Servers and Load Balancers. I really do enjoy this job, not the same boring routine, though sometimes I wish I was challenged a bit more.

After updating my resume on Monster, I got contacted by a couple of the local contract houses. One place couldn't match my pay and I have an interview for the other one this Tuesday. I am mainly looking for leverage, but if some other better opportunity arises I would take it. I wouldn't mind having 5 years total under my belt with the same company, as I think it looks better on a resume than just 3 years before I jumped.

If you have the patience: focus on negotiating your 'exit strategy', ie: in case you are laid off, terminated, or if the *contract runs out or is terminated*. Make it pretty meaty. Then, in about 18 months or so when it comes time again negotiate a pretty good raise for yourself - you will have a bit of leverage in your contract already (ie: if they let the contract lapse, you will get a meaty severance).

funny thing about leverage, if you use it openly, it will "taint" your job. you will feel as though they only paid you because you threatened them and they will feel you "blackmailed" them.
get offers if they come, but don't discuss them when talking to your present employer. if you get a good offer take it. don't look back either way.
