Removing the back to back seats in a Maxum

I have a 1988 Maxum 20 foot open bow with a I/o in it. It has the typical back to back seats in the middle of the boat which will lay down to a bed if wanted.

Mine are in rough shape and would like to remove them and the bases to install 2 single seats. This will open the floor up a little bit for more fishing room.

I do not want to get into a job where I am gutting the boat out and rebuilding it from the inside out.

So to those who have removed these types of seats, how are they held down to the floor?

Do they have storage access underneith? if they do their screwed down to the deck I think through the cleats inside the seat base.

Im doing the same thing with my boat only I have just one back to back, and with 2 single seats up front and the 2 along side the engine cover should be plenty for trips out to the fishing spot

With 34 year old Boats, ya just never know what you're gunna find once you start tearing into them. Lwarden is correct in that the fasteners are prolly inside under the seats. I'd recommend you do a thorough inspection of the deck looking and feeling for any soft/spongy spots once you got the seats out. Hopefully you'll find nothing but Solid Wood.

Thanks on the tips where to look. I will have to check that out next week when I am off. I just ordered up some fabric to recover the engine and 2 rear seats.

Ok, they look like they painted them to seal the wood up, and in doing so they filled them with foam.

So I am guessing they need to stay there so the foam would keep the boat afloat if it got full of water?
