Re: removing STUCK 4.3 alpha1 outdrive

I hammered it back in with a rubber mallet.. pulled and pushed on the shift cable hoping it would lock when prop was spun counter-clockwise. All it would do is click..but would be locked if spun clockwise. ... any ideas to get that thing to let go.?

Since the cable isnt hooked up, there is no pressure holding it in drive. so when you spin the prop and get the clicking sound it means it not fully set into forward. You may need a secound person. Have them spin the prop while you push the cable in. That should do it, then tape the cable so it cant slip out of place.

True that, if you push the drive back up against the bell housing, then push the shift cable in against it's stop you should then be able to bungee the prop backward to hold the drive in forward. Once you have forward try to remove the drive. Otherwise things won't cooperate.

ps. I'll vouch for BT too. He's alright, and he definitely knows boats. You just didn't give him much info, so he shot you an answer.
Hope you get things going, and I hope to hear from you again. A crappy start doesn't have to cause a crappy future!

I had someone helping me spin the prop while I pushed and pulled on the shift cable.. I will try again but all we could get was the clicking. I will post again after next try. Thanks for the advice.

"as i chiseled it apart. Its really stuck in there. "
Time to "chisel " into the wallet, you need a new upper and housing.
All you had to do was post and wait for:

Attach the rams, place a piece of wood between the housing cap and the transom,
use up trim CAREFULLY and walk the drive off adding additional spacing.
I just applied this tip to my stuck alpha one, it worked like a dream, my shaft was stuck in the gimbal bearing and it pulled it right out. this is a great forum and saves me a lot of grief. thanks Bt Doctur.

Thanks for the unnecessary sarcasm, if I didnt mention above...the boat was flooded on the trailor so getting the trim to "walk it off" isn't the option for every situation. Therefore I posted hoping someone can see what I want to do and answer my question, I just need to get it apart the engine is already trash.
Flooded in salt water? How long? You may need drive too. If shifter keyway is straight, it should pull off. Spline may have rusted inside coupler???
