I am going to do some work to my boat this winter and I am wondering how to take a 200 hp mer. off my boat. can I use an engine hoist?

I used 3 - 4 guys and me to move my johnson 150 around. I dont what kind of shape your in but 4 - 5 guys MIGHT be able to lift it off and put it to a stand. Other wise use an over head hoist and attach it to the little loop thats usally on the flywheel or the cylinder head

Yes, you can use an engine hoist. If you take off the cowling their should be a little ring, called the engine lifting tab. Snap a hook on that and lift a away.

If it is a Merc, you'll need to get the lift ring that threads into the flywheel. Then you can use an engine lift and pull it right off. You could muscle it off with another guy, I have done it before, but I since bought an engine lift so I can do it on my own. I have had my outboard off many times, it is way easier and more safe with a lift.
