Hey guys,

Since its off season & boredom is setting in, ive decided to replace these lounge seats with pedistal & bucket seats. anyone have any tips or tool suggestions for removing these seat bases? theyre glued or glassed to the floor. Since these seats are in great shape & i might sell them afterwards so i'd really like to 'try' to cut them clean along the floor & not hack them and/or my floor up. The only tool i can think of so far is a sawzall. Any better saws for the job? the challenging part is going to be on the opposite side of the base(i might only have 3-4" between the base & the side of the hull)so the smaller the tool the better. appreciate any tips or tool suggestions!

Ayuh,.... Are ya Sure 'bout 'em bein' Glued down,..?? Never seen that myself,....

Generally speakin', there's always hidden screws holdin' the seats I've pulled out,....

Lift the seat, 'n look 'round inside the box,....

The seat bottom, 'n back are probably screwed to hinges, start there, 'n pull those screws to get 'em outa yer way,...

btw,.... a sawzall will Shred that carpet, as will any saw type a blade,...

Yeah, I'm with Bondo on this one. Those seats HAVE to tilt up some how and those bases have got to have some kind of mechanical fasteners on the inside. Before I started cutting, I'd try EVERYTHING else first.

Bondo & Woodonglass: believe it or not but the older Maxums & bayliners & some other manufacturers glassed all their lounge style seat bases to the floor & inner sides of hull. dont ask me why, makes no sense. They were a nightmare to get out! I assumed these seats were going to be glassed in as well, but like you said i will pry around first and see if there are any fastening screws, but i highly doubt it.
Zool: i actually have that tool but, the electric version.. i didnt know they made pneumatic ones.pretty cool. i'm sure the pneumatic will work better in this situation, but i bet i'd go through a ton of blades..thanks for the link! willl keep it mind

Ayuh,.... So how are the seat cushions attached,..??

Is there an empty box under the cushion,..??

Can ya use yer electric cuttin' tool, from the Inside of the box,..??

My explanation for my ignorance is, I don't do Bayliners,...... ;)

Bondo, not ignorance on your part :) i would suspect the same as you if i hadnt owned a bayliner in the past; fasteners/ screws to secure them..i'll poke around some more & post another pic tomorrow...in my old bayliner, the inside of these seat bases were closed off & filled with flotation foam.. still dont know why they felt the need to glass them in as thoroughly as they did.

Yeah, well I been doin some perusin on the forum and it appears you iz correctamundo. OOPS has a couple of posts on the matter and he states the same thing that Bayliner Glasses their bases to the hull. IMHO that SUCKS!!!! I'd use the longest most flexible Sawzall blade I could find and "Get Er DUN"!!!!!
