I ran the motor for a few minutes and noticed the waterpump wasn't working and the block was very hot. i've tried to remove the jower unit by removing the four screws right above the prop and it comes off a little but wont go anymore. Anyone know how to remove it?

You need to seperate the shift rod in there somewhere. I'm not sure what it involves on that motor, but on a 61 5 1/2 you need to pull the powerhead to get it apart. More people here know, and will be along shortly to help. The new posting/look here just changed, and a lot of people are taking a break until it get fixed right. Be patient

Look in the opened area between the gearcase and the mid-section and you will see a brass connector on the two shift rod parts.

Remove the lower of the two screws and the unit will lift off.
