As the outdrive uncoupled I realized I had forgot to put it in forward. I immediately tried to slide it back in - but no go. What do I need to do to in order to get it back on?

It's an Alpha I. Thanks.
Re: Removed alpha outdrive w/out putting in forward
thank you. This is a useful webpage. However, since my outdrive is in neutral I'm not sure if the same instructions apply. Is there a way to put it into forward? Or is that what is even needed at this stage. All of the instructions say shift into forward before removal. But what if you didn't?
Re: Removed alpha outdrive w/out putting in forward
Is the drive On,... Or Off Now,.???

If it's On,.... Shift to Forward,+ Remove it.....

If it's Off,.... Look,+ See if anythings Bent....
Re: Removed alpha outdrive w/out putting in forward
when you put the drive in forward, you are aligning the shift shaft tabs parallel with the boat so the drive will slip off and back on. in neutral and reverse, the tab is slightly off centerline. to reinstall, as reelpoor said, shift into forward and check the orientation of the shift shaft tabs. they should be parallel with the centerline of the boat.
Re: Removed alpha outdrive w/out putting in forward
Something has to be bent/bad.....In order for the drive to go on, it has to look like the second picture in #7.....
Both the drive & the shift lever have to be in foreward for this to occur....No way around it....JK
