Remove SX outdrive while full of oil?

I just purchased a 2003 Chaparral with a 5.0L GXi and SX outdrive. All the fluids and filters were just changed, but I need to inspect the u-joints and gimbal bearing. Can I pull the drive without draining the gear oil, or will it leak out all over the place? This might sound stupid, but VP gear oil is not cheap! Thanks!

NO oil should leak when you pull that drive.

Yup should be good to go. Strangely these drives don’t typically have reservoirs which I was used to in my old Mercruiser so these VP’s don’t dribble at all when pulled unless there are issues.

Yes, my last merc had a reservoir. Glad to know I can pull it without having to get new oil. Thanks!

I used to pull my DPS-M drives full if I had a problem, never any leaks
