Remove seat from pedestal - 2007 Q4

I have a 2007 Q4 and as many have noted, the seats are way too low. I want to remove the seats from the pedestals to modify. I have tried and tried with zero success. It can't be this difficult! What am I missing? There has to be a release somewhere.

I do not have the same boat, so this may or may not help. I have a seat on a pedestal that doesn't come off ( easily) also. Mine swivels and has a lock to hold it in position. I need to remove the lock part, then there is a clamp that uses a hex wrench to loosen that allows the seat to come off the pedistal. Easier to see after the swivel lock is removed. Can't say if this is your issue or not, just a suggestion, hope it helps.....
