Re: remove broken off screw

spete,I don't usually run to Sears when i need a quality hand tool ,however , they happen to carry a good line of round style easyouts that work well.Get the cobalt edged ones if in stock.

You need to try out some of the shamrock channels in your boat. They are accesible from the bay side even with the twin towers on the access road that leads from P.I to Port A.Port A and shamrock are definately better fishing holes than laguna as of late because of the better water exchange from gulf.Packery channel will be open soon I hope which will stimulate fishing and gulf access big time from JFK causeway.

thanks for the fishing info ... will definitely have to check that out next time I'm in the vacinity.

One last question - can I use the (Vermont America - think that's the brand in a red package came with four or five different size - looks like a reverse tapered drill bit) screw outs that I have or would you recommend the Sears version?

Thx - SP

By all means ,use what you have as long as you've got one that fits.

Plywoody its called EDM and if the shop has the correct electrode for the thread the charge today is about 70.00 per hour.Set up time and burn time would be about 2 hours. If the head is off you can put it on a milling machine and drill it out leaving about .060 of bolt material in the hole heat it and use a easy out should come out.

Hey Roscoe, This is more fun than a bicycle ridin' monkey. The guys in the shop may just qualify for the "boy wonder" award. But seriously, reverse electrolysis idea has merit, I may do it if welding a nut on doesn't work. Also,I will have to think about "removing all the electronics" as I don't think I want to pull off the fly wheel coils etc. Seems like the "circuit" will be confined between the aluminum head (-) and the steel bolt (+), but I am no "Xpurt" maybe there can be some transient current flow to ground or other short to worry about. Maybe some body with electronic skills will chime in. Thanks for the idea. Fish

fishboy, Another thing besides wiring and electronics that you'll want to avoid is grounding leads on a location that would transmit arc through bearings.Ground as close to work as possible.
