Maconnen: Is that big socket welded to the pipe? If not, then one would be beating on the inner race (where the pipe bushing fits into the inner race) when installing, which is a no-no because it puts all the strain on the bearing balls, themselves, probably damaging them and the race journals.

One needs to put all the force on the outer race when installing to prevent damage to the bearings / races.

Yes, put it in the hole before you mount the drive again. Slide it in and push it to the end. Should be in your new seal kit.

I just bought the Quicksilver kit and it no longer includes the seal. The bearing is sealed and not greaseable. Thus they say a seal is no longer needed. I replaced mine anyway.

Yea, the big socket is welded onto the pipe. I just went to a plumbing store then to a tool store with the old bearing and assembled the pieces I need.
