Hello everyone,,

Its too big a rig for single handed launch / retrieve solo... 1984 Wellcraft 26 aft cab (7000lbs ) on a EZ Load roller trailer. Boat is moored in a slip close to the house now- but it is too expensive to keep there next year. I really do not want to downsize-love the boat. The bow is 7 to 8 feet high on the trl. I have an wired remote for the electric winch. I do not have to get truck tires wet but the cable has to be let out several feet to hook & unhook once boat is floating. I'm thinking a welded ladder could get my fat azz up & down but how to unlatch bow eye???

I had seen an add for a remote release but do not remember the name.

I usually have help but like going alone some times--anyone have any useful experiance or ideas?:D

find a different launch with a steeper ramp

this is how I launch my 26' by myself and good friend launched his 27' carver by himself. back down the ramp until boat is floating. tie off the boat to the dock, then release the winch which would only roll back a few feet. then walked up on the dock, untie the boat, walk it backwards about 10', re-tie the boat, fire it up to about 1000 rpm. then pull the truck/trailer up to a parking spot. walk back to the boat, bring RPM's down to idle, un-tie and jump in and go

retrieval is bring the boat to the dock, tie off on the dock. walk to get truck / trailer. back in until the fenders are just above the water. untie boat and walk forward to bow stop, step off dock to ramp while holding bow line. reach over, clip winch line to bow eye. winch up the 2', add safety chain, pull boat out.

. I do a lot of boating in below freezing temps. Getting wet isn’t an option.

To launch, I attach a line to the bow cleat and wrap the line on the winch post a couple of times. Back off the winch until the line takes the load. Unhooked winch cable and use the line to control the rate of decent off the trailer.

To retrieve, I back the trailer in as far as I can yet still have access to walk out the tongue to clip the winch cable.

Tie line to bow cleat, walk boat up pier (momentum) and onto trailer. Walk tongue of trailer, pull boat as far forward as it will go before connecting winch cable. Throw rope up on bow and back to the winch stand.

Push button on winch and relax

Waders work for me. They take a few minutes to put on but I can't do the trailer tongue dance anymore as I've gotten older, fatter and less flexible. As long as there's a dock alongside the ramp no issues single handing my 27' express cruiser.

Well, there is "boat2trailer" and "the snapper", both will lock onto and release from the bow eye, but don't allow any winching.
Make more for float on or power loaded bass boats.

There used to be an extension pole, that was supposed to do what you want, but reviews were poor.
If I recall correctly, worked ok for attaching the hook to bow eye, but poorly or maybe not at all for releasing it.

I would suggest an expanded steel gangway, from front of trailer to first crossmember.
12-18" wide
mounted 18" from centerline ?

Something similar to this should get you up high enough to release the winch hook after you let the
winch out a few feet and the boat settles on the water.

That's just what I need! My current boat is wider than any I ever had and I can't reach the bow eye from the dock. No problem releasing the hook, just reattaching it.

Do you recall the name of the extension pole?

I found it for you Jim.
STAR BRITE
EZ Hooker Boat Hook

$20.
You have to buy the Star Brite handle separately.
Available at Amazon, and boat shops, but iboats search came up empty.

The cheap or redneck version would be to tape the hook onto a broom handle or your boat hook, with masking tape, after hooked to bow eye, give the handle a good yank and rip the tape. LOL

Thanks so much. I ordered a hooker tonite. Errr, I mean an ez hooker.

When I googled it all I found was a Captain Hook Winch Hook. It looked good, but it was out of stock everywhere and the Company website was no longer in effect.

I'll post the results when I get to try it.

I wondered about this guy, one post he just got his first boat, next post was how to load a 26 foot welcraft and another regarding a different boat and all posts seems a little off...

It seems to be a new trick. Appear as a normal member and then, boom with the spam. This guy is the second one today.
