Remote Control Question

I am in need of some help with my remote control. What i have is a 96 115 evinrude on a 19ft wellcraft. From my understanding is that the remote control has a neutral switch and when the switch is popped out you're in neutral right? well i think i may have mine backwards or something, cause when the neutral switch is not engaged and you throttle forward or reverse the boat moves. now when you engage the neutral switch like you would if you were going to go into gear, nothing happens, it seems that you are staying in neutral.

Can anyone help explain this to me, seems like something is backwards.

thanks

Re: Remote Control Question

the neutral switch is inside, and is an electrical switch, that keeps you from starting the motor when in gear. if you are referring to the button on the throttle/shift lever, it should be squeeze to put the motor into gear. this is just a mechanical shift safety.

Re: Remote Control Question

It is a bit hard to work out exactly what you are asking, as mentioned the Neutral switch only prevents you from starting the Motor when it is gear for safety reasons, it is an electrical interupt device, so give us a bit more of a clue as to what your problem is.

Re: Remote Control Question

Is this nuetral switch something you can see without taking the control box apart?
I think he means a nuetral lock out so you can rev the engine without putting it in gear, not sure if that is the right name for it.
It is a button you can push in on the pivot point of the binacle to keep it from shifting so you can rev the boat up.
If that is it it should go into gear unless you push it in then it won't let the gears engage, when you return the throttle to nuetral it rengages and you can shift.
Like I said not sure of the exact name but I have used them on boats from work.

Re: Remote Control Question

On my '98 Johnny, The push button on the pivot of the Throttle lever allows you to advance the throttle, in neutral, like on my MerCruiser. The OEM Owners manual advises against doing this when cold starting normally.

The lever in the throttle lever, under your fingers, locks the throttle at idle. It must be squeezed to advance the throttle and put the motor in gear, or if the throttle button is pushed, advance the throttle in neutral.

Re: Remote Control Question

ok let me further explain. There is no push button on the throttle lever only trim buttons. In the center of the control box there is a push button. i think 5150abf knows what i'm talking about. my question was if you engage the button are you in neutral, or is it opposite. I have post a pic of the button i am talking about.

Re: Remote Control Question

I think I see where you are going.
The motor automatically goes to neutral when the throttle is centered at idle, or it should.
You should feel a "bump" when you move the throttle forward or backward, that is the motor going into gear
The button is to keep the engine in neutral so you can run the rpms up and shouldn't be touched unless you want to do that.
But to answer your question all you need to do to get the motor in neutral is to center the throttle.
Does that answer your question ro did I miss understand again

Re: Remote Control Question

when cold starting the motor, to increase gas flow, and idle speed, you push that button, and move the lever forward, to increase rpms while the motor is in neutral and warming up. this is the only time it should be needed.

OK, go back to the main page of the forum and you will see a big bold blue highlighted statement regarding posting to old threads......this thread is from 3 years ago!!!!

Also read the forum guidelines and you will see that you should post your own thread for your particular issue, instead of trying to add on (hijack) to another thread.

Now with that being said, please post your problem in the appropriate section and people will help you accordingly.
