I have a 1998 30hp 2 stroke Mariner outboard. After having it professionally checked over, I was told the water pump impeller s/b replaced. I am now wondering if I can replace this myself since the overall repair bill (there were other things also) would total more than $800.00. So I am trying to save where I can. Is this a complicated thing with many parts that I could goof up?

You dont have to be a great mechanic to change the impellar. Just take your time and learn as you go. 800 bucks seems like alot .What all is it going to buy for you? Maybe we can help you save more.

Yeah, you can say that again. There is some sort of twilight zone putting the lower unit back on - that last 1/2".........have done it twice and took me 20 minutes both times.

It helps if you can have a helper turn the flywheel to align the drive shaft splines while you push the lower unit up into the housing. Easy job though. Just take your time and don't get frustrated remounting the lower unit.
