reinstalling garboard plug plate (what to seal?)

This seems like a lousy design. I was ready to dunk the new/old boat for the first time, but chickened out. It looked like the previois owner loosened one and stripped one of the plate screws torquing the plug. I had also just changed the impeller and it looked like my pump may have been dripping on the timing belt, so I just went home (luckily only 5 blocks) .

How in the heck do I attach and seal the plate?

The plate I have must have been reattached at some point as the screws were about 2" long, but they stripped through the hole in the transom. The plate doesn't allow much clearance between the drain hole and screw holes.
I plan on cleaning and resealing the hole in transom with epoxy (transom and inside of drain hole still was hard like a rock), I also thought about inserting a PVC liner tube through the hole in the transom (I have one that fits the flange of the plug plate).

I will be re-drilling and filling the existing holes with epoxy as well, but what about the new holes and sealing the plate (epoxy, marine caulk ????)

replace it with a new pvc type flange on the outside, and treaded nut on the inside. seal around it.

I'm interested in looking at that PVC flange; where did you find it online? I've checked a bunch of sites and haven't uncovered one.

Thanks-

jamestowndistributers.com they are common, just hard to find. most marine stores carry them, as they are the easiest to use.

OK, I found several searching "thru-hulls" not "drain plugs", "drain tubes", or "garboard plug", but I don't think they are going to work.

I'll have to wait until I can get back to the boat tonight and measure, but I think the drain hole is too low to the bottom and I don't know how I'd get a nut on the interior either as the drain hole is level with the floor.

There's not much room in back to work with. The screw in the bottom hole on the brass garboard plate almost was in the gelcoat and the top of the plate impacted the bottom of the outdrive (and the brass plate was flat on top to fit under the outdrive, not round like most pictured online).

The local WestMarine store is pretty bad, but just down the road so may have more options from your posts. I just need to measure first. Annapolis is a boating area, so shouldn'd be too hard to find something if I know what to look for.

Do I use 5200 to seal it or something else? I'm ready to try to epoxy everything

Thanks-
