This seems like a lousy design. I was ready to dunk the new/old boat for the first time, but chickened out. It looked like the previois owner loosened one and stripped one of the plate screws torquing the plug. I had also just changed the impeller and it looked like my pump may have been dripping on the timing belt, so I just went home (luckily only 5 blocks) .
How in the heck do I attach and seal the plate?
The plate I have must have been reattached at some point as the screws were about 2" long, but they stripped through the hole in the transom. The plate doesn't allow much clearance between the drain hole and screw holes.
I plan on cleaning and resealing the hole in transom with epoxy (transom and inside of drain hole still was hard like a rock), I also thought about inserting a PVC liner tube through the hole in the transom (I have one that fits the flange of the plug plate).
I will be re-drilling and filling the existing holes with epoxy as well, but what about the new holes and sealing the plate (epoxy, marine caulk ????)
