reed valve or carb

hi guys i have a 04 merc 90hp saltwater edition ob. have a problem with motor in idle coughs seams to load up. have good spark 120 psi on comp. took carbs out cleaned rebuilt fuel pump set floats turned screws out 1 1/2 turns to run ok go in gets worse. pulled plugs r very wet.checked spark very good. changed fuel new tank and filter.any help would be great.problem going on for awhile hate to take to mech do my own work but stumped.

The first thing to check for is plugged bleeders or bad bleeder check valve. The reeds on these are easy to check since they're located just under the intake manifold. You need to be gentle with the intake when you remove it and replace it because improper torque procedures will warp it and it will never seal right again. If memory serves me well, the max reed clearance is .020 but you also should apply light pressure to them and listen for a click. Clickers will hang open on you when the engine is running and cause sneezing but they'll look perfectly fine when you have the reed valve assy on the bench.

what is a bleeder. not sure what that is.tks
