Re: Rectifier upgrade for 86 90hp I-6
Thanks!
After contemplating whether to run a wire all the way from the gauges in front to the motor in back, I decided to just jumper the small red wire on the rectifier/regulator to a 12v source on the motor. The little bit of drain on the battery doesn't worry me as I have an isolation switch with two batteries and I normally keep everything off when I'm not operating the boat.
Fired her up and everything looks great...charging, but no high voltage spikes.
That year model may only have the six wire harness which wont have the purple. You can tie the "small" red to the 12+ and it will be on all the time which wont hurt anything other than a couple of mill-volt battery drain.
Thanks!
