On my '97 Crownline BR I'm planning to recover the dash pods, which have plenty of compound curves. The existing 'vinyl'(?) is very 'stretchy' and has no cloth backing. Anyone have a supplier for this material?

When I attempted this it was not fun, especially if the pods have any concave spots that go deep. I went and got some marine grade vinyl and soaked the backside in MEK, that releases the backing from the vinyl leaving you with a vinyl sheet that is kind of rubbery and flexible. You can then take that sheet and after prepping and gluing the pod with some spray on glue, you can stretch the vinyl over the pod and slowly work it so it does not have any wrinkles. If you have any concave spots those are the toughest because it is really hard to get the vinyl to stick and then stretch it over the rest of the pod.

That's going to be a rough job. I have a 225BR and know exactly what you're talking about. It was probably molded on at the factory under heat and vacuum. I don't know if you can duplicate it any other way. Wish I could be some help, but I believe your best bet woul be a boat wrecking yard for used pods. The new vinyl dyes work great if they're not the right color.

Good Luck!

Thanks to both of you for your advice. Sounds like a long, slow 'over the winter' job, if I do decide to try it! Superpop, did the covering you applied seem to hold up to the heat of the sun? Appreciate the help!
