Wow! What a hog! Haven't caught the local news tonight yet. I'll make sure to watch the 10:00. This is the first I have seen of it. Was it caught today or recently?

Re: Record Minnesota Muskie

Record??

There were 4 muskys caught from only one resort in July on LOTW that were bigger than that.

The fish on display at Angle Outpost (MN) was 59 7/8" and caught in MN waters. See my pic in another thread on LOTW.

51" is certainly a trophy, but is exceeded annually. 29" is a good, but not exceptional girth for a 50"+ fish.

Yes, SBN. Definitely a good fish.

50" is the golden number for most musky fishermen.

Re: Record Minnesota Muskie

Understand Spinner..Glad you shared that pic with us..Can you Imagine having something like that happen upon your line.. I can especially if BubbaKator or MellowYellow in the boat to..One of us would have been in the water eventually with that gator.. :D

I don't Know about the girth thing JB..I have only caught one gator with a girth like that and he didn't reach that golden length of 50"..Thats alot of poundage in that pic..My guess here that its between 35 and 40lbs..Add that to a very pi...off musky and you are in for the time of your life believe me..I have been there..

Re: Record Minnesota Muskie

The only esox I ever had on that was in the 50" class whipped me thoroughly. I had the right equipment and the right attitude, I just didn't have enough skill. :(

The fish in my avatar was well under 50", and skinny.

Re: Record Minnesota Muskie

Still a very nice fish JB..You and I know the feeling attached to hooking a big gator and the depression that follows when one gets it to the boat only to have it flip its tail and spit the lure out

More than likely that was a male unlees you caught it in the spring..With the long Sleeves i am gussing in the fall maybe..can't tell by the pic was it a tiger..

Not a tiger, GF.

Caught her in LOTW in early July, 2001. Early July is usually still quite cool up there.

Stupid question from the un-initiated, is a muskie what you guys sometimes call "The Warrior"?

Aldo

She was Bee One Gee, Mike. Didn't measure her, but would guess middle 40s. She was very beat and I wanted to release her ASAP.

Yes, Dunaruna. "Warrior" or "Gator" or "Gator Eyes" are all nicknames for Esox Masquinongy, the legendary Musky (or Muskie).

Re: Record Minnesota Muskie

JB, she is one nice fish! Have a couple in the 50 inch class under my belt, but the biggest have always gotten away. You fight them until you are dead tired, and you know they have to be one whipped fish. Then they come to the surface and lay there, about 6 feet from the boat, just out of reach of the net and they give you, I kid you not, a smirk! That's right, they will smile at you as if to say, "You stupid human!" then they will flick that big tail of theirs and they are gone. You won't even feel a tug as they craftily break you off.

They are evil! But once the dark side bites you, you can't get away. So before going after them the first time, be warned, there will be no turning back.
