Reconsidering Tahoe purchase...looking for ideas

Thank god I found this forum before I ran out and bought a Tahoe. I am really disappointed to see all the similar reoccuring problems on these, such as the poorly closing windshield, screws falling out, seats falling apart, vents flying out, engine cover falling off/hinge troubles etc etc along with complaints of fit and finish. Wow. This is very disturbing since a lot of you have complained about ths with brand new boats. So....now I am reconsidering my purchase. I was pretty much ready to buy a Tahoe, but now I am not so sure. I always heard Bayliner getting a bad rap out on the lake but now I am thinking of looking at one of them as they don't seem to get as bad a rap as the Tahoe. I am dissapointed as I liked the styling/price of the Tahoe.

Since there is a lot of experience here, I am wondering what other maker should I be looking at rather than Tahoe? Any ideas/suggestions appreciated. Keep in mind my budget is under $27k and I want a 19-21ft fish/ski boat.

thanks

Glastron makes a gt205 fish and ski. You may be able to find a left over from last season in that price range. I got the gt 205 non fish version and like it a lot. it only has about 7 hours on it though so i hope it holds up well. the new 2011 glastrons do not have the VEC hull. larson kept that building right when they sold off glastron. a larson is not in that price range for sure. new bayliners still look kinda "cheap" to me.

edit. it looks like the tahoe q5 SF with a 4.3 mpi with the some of the options I have comes in around 30,900 + tax nas the 2011 glastron is about 32,300..yikes

best off you post in the general forum, you may get skewed opinions in the Tahoe forum ;)

Yeah, most of us over here like our Tahoes. As long as you understand that boats get a lot of vibration, and things will rattle loose in any boat, then you're cool with owning a Tahoe. Sometimes I think they catch more complaints because they're an entry-level boat, and get entry-level buyers who expect everything to be perfect all the time. Any boat takes TLC to keep it in tip-top shape.

You get what you pay for! :)

I am happy with my Tahoe, I have no regrets. I got a bit more boat for my money with a Tahoe, so all is good for me.

Count us in the "we're happy" too. We got a price on our tahoe that was hard to beat, and although we've had a couple problems -- still glad we purchased what we did. We have the 218WT, and it is a perfect combo boat -- fishing in the AM, skiing in the PM, and party in between!
