..................

So this is spray on and rinse off with no scrubbing it sounds like. I'll have to try it tomorrow after a fishing run.

I think if you spray it on and rinse it off you will still have a bunch of little spots where the spray missed. I used to use a sprayer and a long handled brush. Spray it on, use the brudh to move it around for full coverage, wait a few minutes, and rinse it off. I think a sponge mop would work well also.

Or, read the directions. It's been a while since I don't have the trailer boat anymore.

Re: Recommended products for cleaning and detailing the boat

A couple more questions. I bought the Starbrite Hull Cleaner purely by coincidence as some in this thread have recommended it. I have a painted trailer... will this stuff hurt the trailer? The boat sits down really tight between the fenders which have bunk carpet on them. There is only about 1-2" clearance between the boat side and the fenders and its a tandem trailer so that's a big area that I can't really scrub. If I spray this stuff on with a garden sprayer, will it hurt the carpet on the inside of the fenders?

Do you guys spray it on the whole hull and then rinse it off, or do sections?

Also, I have some pretty large ProCraft stickers on each side of the boat... any worry that this will damage them?

So this is spray on and rinse off with no scrubbing it sounds like. I'll have to try it tomorrow after a fishing run.

You should not have a problem with a painted trailer, the stickers or your carpet if you dilute 4:1 as I noted above.

Adjust your sprayer to give a "heavy" mist and go at it. I typically start at the bow and work my way around the boat. Be sure and spray everything you want to clean. Its better to use too much than too little.

By the time I work my way back to bow (5 minutes or less) the place where I started is already clean and ready to rinse. Rinse and take a look around and see if you missed anything. Every once and a while I'll need to hit a spot here or there that I missed the first time around. Depends on how anal I'm being that day. :D

I've never had to use a brush. Just rinse and go.

Thanks for the tip.. will give that a try today. My daughter said to me when we pulled the boat out of the lake after fishing this morning, "why is it all brown... it wasn't like that when we bought it was it?". If a 14 year old girl notices it, its time to clean it. Coincidentally, we only bought the boat about 2 weeks ago.

That stuff is amazing. The boat went from looking like crap to looking awesome in about 5 minutes with no scrubbing. I'm sold. I mixed it 4:1 with water in a new lawn sprayer. Then sprayed it on the hull. By the time I got around the boat, most of it was white and few spots I missed so I hit them. I then took a soft brush on a pole and scrubbed up further in a few areas I could reach with the sprayer. Hosed it down and I'm done.

I was using the Starbrite Hull Cleaner.

Is there a good website to buy boat cleaners, particularly the Starbrite?

Check any local marine store for Starbrite.

I like 3M Finesse-it for a good buff followed by Meg's. I also like Fleetwax as previously mentioned. Goes on easy, comes off easier than Meg's.

As for not getting hull cleaner all over yourself, the solution is easy. Get someone else to do it.

I had the same issue with the hull turning brown after 2 weeks of use. The problem was it needed to be waxed. After I waxed it with Fleetwax it's stayed white the whole season. I used a creeper to get the underside...it wasn't fun...but I got to know my hull pretty well.

I swear by StarBrite Deck Cleaner and Starbrite Hull Cleaner.

It'll get stuff off that nothing else will even touch and with the swipe of a towel, no elbow grease needed.

www.autopia.org - These guys are the "real deal". Check out the forums (Click and Brag, Pro Details Before and After, etc). There are also sub-sections talking about different products and what not. This site is the mecca of detailing.

Since this forum is sponsored by a company that sells such products, it would be poor form to recommend a competitor.

If iboats.com doesn't sell what you need or you don't like the prices, all you have to do is search the web for other vendors.
