Right now, korygrandy's suggestion in post #2 is getting serious attention, as well as the Bahamas.

I used to go to an area south of there in Mexico for many years for diving and I loved it. Just one suggestion is to look into what the crime is right now down there. Personally, I am staying away from that area due to the drug crime problems. They have had issues in Cancun which is very close by.

If you decide you like Cuban Neckties (in Mexico), and you'd rather self direct check out Akumal/Yalku. One of our favorite spots on the planet. Same general area as Puerta Aventura, Playa del Carmen, Tolum etc. Great snorkeling in "Cenotes". Do some googling, they are weird tide pools with both fresh and salt water that doesn't mix. Different fish on each side. Plus there are caves with family safe snorkeling too. Dos Ojos is one of the most famous.

Go North young man, to Newfoundland. Whale watching, deep sea fishing, trout and salmon fishing, great site seeing, icebergs and Gros Morne Park on the west side and Terra Nova Park on the east and the European French islands of St.Pierre and Miguellon. Real friendly people and no crowds.

im with jeep man, atlantic canada in the summer is the place to be. check out prince edward island, new brunswick, and nova scotia. you can drive from one province to the next in just hours, whale watching, the worlds highest tides etc etc. ( newfoundland is on my bucket list.....i hear the brook trout fishing is the best on the planet!)

I have stayed at Las Casitas Akumal many times. My favorite is staying at Paamul at the place owned by the dive shop. There are some all inclusives as well in the area. I used to go down there when it was just a 2 lane road. Times have changed down there for sure.

Dang Bruce. Mrs and I snorkeled in Yalku lagoon before there was ANYTHING there. 1992. I read a weird reference in an obscure Mexican travel book and somehow found it. Have you been in Dos Ojos?

I was swimming in Yalku between 1990 and 1994 and then again starting in 1998 through 2003. I have been diving in many cenotes down there but I don't remember the names.

Driving down from Cancun was one lane each way with jungle right to the edge of the road. Now it looks like a super highway.

The Texans that we stayed with in paamul called the lagoon "y'all cool"

If your thinking about a cruise, maybe one of the tall ship cruses would interest your family. If I ever take a cruise, It will be under sail, not under steam.
