thanks BOB but there was not any info for how wide the transom should go on a aluminum boat . so I made it wider then the one that came out , I,m going to HD to buy the epoxy ,I hope I did everything right so I can get this boat in the water ......... it was still a good site to read!!

Wider is fine ;) as long as you do not go smaller.

Epoxy from HD???? I am pretty sure HD only sells "over the counter" fiberglass resin which will actually work fine. Just a note..... do not use any PT wood since it will react with the aluminum.

Yes, we have done MANY aluminum boats here.

Re: Rebuld transom on aluminum boat

Note: Home Depot resin is typically Polyester Resin NOT epoxy. If this IS what you get you WILL need to cover the wood with Fiberglass mat too! Polyester Resin without mat will dry brittle and crack and allow water to saturated the wood. The mat will NOT allow this to happen. You will need to make sure and wrap the edges of the wood as well with the mat and the resin and take care not to get air pockets in the mat. As an extra precaution to could Pre-Coat the edges with some of the 10 minute Epoxy the Home depot sells in the Small plunger tubes. There is enough there to do just the edges of your transom. Wrapping the edges with the mat and not getting air pockets can sometimes be a problem. Take care NOT to get the epoxy on the flat surface of the wood because the poly resin will NOT adhere to the epoxy
