I'm rebuilding a Tillotson Carb from a 1973 Chrysler 6hp model 62BD. The carb has the numbers 429061 and C06A 7 in it.

The motor was running fine, but when I used it last time, I ran it dry. When I ran it today, it started up fine, then died quickly. There was gas leaking from the carb, so I suspect I need a new needle and seat. I'm trying to take the carb apart so I can inspect the needle and seat, but when I attempted to do so, I found that the pin that holds in the float bowl is unwilling to come out. I've tried heating it with water (don't want to use a blowtorch this close to the plastic bowl), but the pin won't budge. I have tried persuading it, tapping it with a hammer, pulling on it with pliars, but all I am doing is scratching the pin - I don't want to keep hitting it with a hammer, as I suspect I'll break the carb housing.

Here's a picture of the pin.

Any advice on how to get this out?

OK - so I soaked in penetrating oil overnight. After some more gentle persuasion it came out. Just for anyone else doing this, the long side of the pin is the side you need to push on.

When I removed the needle and seat, the needle was solid metal - no rubber cap to it - is this the way this part was designed, or is it supposed to have a rubber cap?

Last question - anyone know what rebuild kit I should be ordering?

OK - so the reason I was having trouble tracking down the carb rebuild kit was I can't find a parts diagram or reference to a Chrysler 62BD....

Turns out the 62BD is the Canadian model - has the same parts manual as the 62HD (US Model). The part for this is Sierra 18-7037. As for the needle, I found a photograph online of that carb kit, and sure enough, the needle has a rubber head - so not surprising that this carb was flooding.
