Rebuild?

I have a Johnson DT 38 motor. It starts up but when I took my boat out it would stall when I tried to give it any speed . Plus it leaks gas like crazy. I was just wondering is this motor worth taking apart and putting back together. I was thinking I could buy a gasket kit and make my own. Does anyone know of any major problems I might encounter If I took this thing apart and put it back together?

Re: Rebuild?

Well, don't fix what ain't broke! If you are having problems with leaking fuel, try to narrow that down first. Bad fuel pump? bad line? carb flooding out due to bad needle valve/float? Any one of those problems would be a relatively easy and non-invasive fix. I'd try to more accurately diagnose the problem before deciding to tear the engine apart and put it back together again. Unless, of course, you really just want to.
