Rear/transom mount tilt switch?

My father in law has a Triton bass boat with a 225 Merc outboard. One of the coolest features of the motor is an auxilliary waterproof tilt switch on the engine cowl, so you can stand beside the motor and tilt it up and down to place the motor jack. When I take my Q7i out of the water, I tilt the motor down as much as possible to drain water while I am putting the boat cover on for the ride home, I tilt it up for travel (easy to do, hold the up tilt switch until you hear it reach the fully up position, and then put it down while my boat is stored. Up is no problem of course, but unless you are a good guesser, you need someone to watch the motor while you tilt down to prevent the skeg fin from hitting the pavement. I'd love to have a waterproof tilt switch, like outboards have, mounted somewhere on the rear of the boat so that I can do this unassisted, while I can see the motor myself. Has anyone tried/done this? Just curious. Thanks in advance!

Re: Rear/transom mount tilt switch?

Here in the western states, all boats must be inspected for aquatic nuisance water species before launch. One thing you have to show the inpsector is that the foot is drained of water. I had the shop at Bass Pro/Tracker Marine install a auxilliary tilt switch on the transom of my 195 I/O. Switch and installation was about $100. Makes the trip each time to the lake much easier and faster.

They had the switch in stock just for such situations.

My first boat ('93 Monterey) had a switch like that. It was handy, I have always wondered why more boats don't have that setup

You can buy the switch for less than $20. I bought mine at bass pro and installed it myself right under one of the blower vents. And your right it's one of the handiest mods I've done.

Great info, thanks!

hpeeler, did you just wire it straight into the same wiring as the trim switch on the throttle? In my mind, it is very straightforward and simple, but I like to mkare sure that I look before I leap!

Thats exactly what I did. Maybe not the best way, but it works.

Mine was 58 bucks installed on a 228. It is a factory Mercruiser part that plugs directly into the harness.
