Re: rear engine mount trouble (alignment)

Dixie, the socket and extension has TOO much play at the point where they attach, (unless they are welded together), even then the chances of them being on the same plane is slim to none.

As DonS mentioned, the couplers are not cheap, Waste one or two of those puts a serious dent onto your bank. (Thats how I learned about alignment). I'd check my alignment twice a year!
Maybe a little much. Doesen't cost but an hour to check it.

How long was the outdrive off of the boat, (while you were rebuilding it)?
Could water saturated the wood stringers while it sat, and swelled them?

Give your town, maybe there is an iboats member close to you who will lend you theirs, AND maybe even show you how to use it! These Guys, and I think 2-3 girls, are a GREAT group!...sl

Had the yard pull the Alpha to check alingment, grease coupler, change oils and see if wear problems are starting and engine oil change. $ 125 total. I can live with that compared to what you are going thru.

$125 ! Where at! I already have the drive off, maybe I should check how much somebody would charge just to align it. Were they family? Did they tear anything up?

Dixieboater,

I think you are making this harder than it needs to be. Buy a tool -- if you are going to keep the boat and do DIY, you will need one every year. On www.mercstuff.com , they are $72 plus about $12 shipping.

Since you have messed with the alignment nuts, you will have to get a tool -- or buy a coupler and pull the engine in the middle of the season.
