hi guys me again with a new prob with a new motor i think its a 57 evinrude 9hp 2 cyl it was seized when i got it took block off and freed it did the tune up and it turns over good. now my problem is that the thing has some kind of weird cement type rod were the gas comes from tank to carb . its located at the bottom of the tank and has an elbow fiting to what looks like a brake line to a car , goind to the carb ,as i was trying to start the dam thing it wasnt geting gas , so i decided to take the elbow out and down came this cement rod type thing i thought it was a filter of some sort but no luck geting air through it , even after a good cleaning witch proved it to be a bronze type rod that looks pooris but no air will flow through. is this thing supose to b there or what ? i was ready to start the litlle thing but if no gas can travell im stuck any ideas .

ps sory if not to clear i dont know what the pice is called never seen anything like it thanks

What is your model number, it will help us determine what engine you have, and maybe someone can help you.

It's a fuel filter. I have the parts manual for the 7512 engine if you PM me with your email and request.

ok i let it sit in carb cleaner over night and it still looks the same its a copper fiting that screws into the bottom of the gas tank and its about the size of my pinky it is hollow and is conected to another elbow fiting thaen the gas line to the carb. this pice should be were the filter is but man i cant even get air to go through. and i dont even see any type of holes in it . im very tempted to cut it off and make my own type of filter with screens usung the same fiting ,cus im thinking if it was a filter a one point in time then the engine is some what gravity fed to the carb so making my own filter wouldnt cause any harm to it am i corect or am i way off?

It is a filter, and it is hard to clean. Here's a couple of ways:

Blowtorch and brass brush it hard (away from the gas tank), then air compressor. Take the shut-off valve off first.
If that doesn't work:
Blowtorch it upside down until it falls out. Solder a fine piece of screen in its place.

I know nothing of that motor, but a google search of sintered bronze filter brings up a bunch of hits.
