I have a 1987 Mastercraft. The rub rail is loose on the port side and lets large quantities of water in when turning or in heavy chop. Can this be re-attached or will I need to replace with new? Either way, what is the cheapest / easiest / best way to accomplish this? I don't want to tear it appart without knowing how to put it back together right.

caulk the joint, if metal rail with rubber insert, remove the rubber, and screw it one, replace rubber. that's the last place people look for leaks.

Re: Re-attach Rub Rail

Not familiar with your boat but all rub rails are either pop riveted or screwed into the hull joint. Pull off the outer and have a look at what's there. If it's rubber just pry it off. Now you'll know what you have to work with. In either case you'll need to redrill new holes through the railing and into the hull. Fill the old ones with some 5200 or Marine Tex. Bed your new screws in with some 4200. Reapply your rubber insert and you're good to go !!!! Also take a look under your rails for missing caulk, etc. That will also cause water to enter when making those turns. :D
