Hey Guys,

Once again, thank you for all of the help so far.

I just had one quick question: How sure are you guys about the timing cover/water pump being wrong? I looked at the engine compartment in the boat and it does not appear to be setup for the side-mounts that would be typical with a boat motor. It looks as if it has used the timing-cover engine mounts for quite some time.

Is it possible that this is the correct timing cover/mounts?

I'm just trying to figure out if I'm going to have to completely build this from scratch to get it going!

what year boat?

that motor wasnt in front of a Volvo 250 that I know of, however i have been wrong before. I believe the Volvo 4-bangers were usually paired to the 250.

that aluminum mount/timing cover/ cam driven pump assembly wouldnt have been factory. as stated prior, that pump is generally on drag boats and some jet boats, not fishing boats, run abouts, etc.

OMC and Merc used some early Ford motors, however I believe they were 302's. Volvo did use the 351 later (mid 90's).

depending on the year of the boat, and its history my guess is someone in its past pieced it together.

Side question while I do some more research...

If the 250 was usually paird up with Volvo 4 Cyl motors, is this 351W going to be too much power and damage that outdrive, or is it going to be fine? (Assuming I can get this all back together).

Don is the best answer for the power question on the 250. not sure how much power the 351 is putting out. I doubt its stock due to the cooling setup.
