Re-learned a long forgotten item. Used to be heavy into mythology as a kid. More than one might think, our culture and words are wrapped up in it.
In Greek mythology, the arrogant Narcissus is brought down by a reflecting pool
It is also a genus of flower in the line of daffodils with this seemingly a common interpretation of how that was named:
A myth from Ancient Greece, it tells of a young man who spurns the interest of a nymph and becomes enamored with his own reflection. He lays by the pool, gazing at himself, until he slowly wastes away. The narcissus flower (or daffodil) springs up where he died.
The daffodils' distinctive drooping head is thought to represent him staring down at his reflection.
The internet can be so horrible yet so wonderful.
