ran great this fall, won't even crank today, but gauges and pumps are working..

OK, here's the problem. boat ran well on the trailer just before winterizing it. Today I reinstalled batt. properly,(fully charged) red first then black, having burnt out a fuse doing it wrong once, dashboard powers up fine, bilge pump and blower both work, but not even a click when I turn to start. Where should I look 1st? It is a bayliner Capre, 2000, i/o merc alpha 1. any help would be appreciated. Larry

Ayuh,... Did ya sand the battery terminals, 'n wire ends,..??

I'd do the same to the wires on the starter end, 'n ground cable end 1st...

Some current stoppin' corrosion ya see, 'n some ya don't...
Shiny metal Clean is what ya need...

How old is the battery?

Thanks, gents. battery is 3 years old but holds a charge. Just put the charger on it and it goes right to "full", I could try a new one I've got. Battery terminals are clean but I will check the wire connectors tomorrow.

90 amp fuse piggy backed on starter may be the problem especially if you crossed terminals

Could be the Neutral Safety Switch. Try wiggling the shifter or disconnect the wires from the neutral safety switch and hook them together (just for testing). Another possibility is the starter slave solenoid.

Might help if you tell us what engine and outdrive you have. Bayliner doesn't make the engines, they just get them from Mercruiser, and there are all kind of them.
