Ran 5 Gals @ 100:1 by accident

I accidently ran 5 gals at 100:1 instead of 50:1,<br />never over 3500 RPM mostly around 3000. Motor seems fine. I am using the correct mix now but have i done damage?<br />89 Mariner 90HP

Probably not OMC ran 100 to 1 years ago the biggest problem they had was the engines rusting up when not in use

I bet you couldve run 500 gallons @ 100-1 & she'd still be OK

Thanks for the reply. Peace of mind feels good.It actually ran alot cleaner with less oil, but I guess 50:1 is best.

I am new to marine two strokes but have a some experience with two stroke air cooled engines. the hotter an engine runs the better it runs up to the point of scotrching or viscosity break down. Aside from the gas the only lubrication the engine gets is oil that is added to the fuel. The greatest determinent of the need for more oil is the tolerances that were built into the engine to begine with. I was working with a fellow who seemed to think 50 to 1 meant more oil instead of smaller tolerances and better lubrication.

Won't hurt it but the plugs are probably dirty. When you clean the plugs take a look at the pistons - some decarb may in order.

Did you have an accidental brain fart on ratios? Running leaner oil usually means cleaner plugs.

probabley not but the evinrude that was to be run on 100:1was revised later after w o t running they did have a probablem . my soninlaw learned that after he bought a new one and slung a rod . now it is 50:1. you will probabley be alright no more than you have run it . 6 galons dont go far

Having this very conversation with one of the "hired hands". Sounds like the lubricity of the fuel, even with half the oil,is sufficient in your application. All things wear out in time even with extra lubrication. The "hired hand" says he'd like to check the tolerances on the bearings after extended use. That would be the sure way of defining the relative wear.

Just wanted to check on oil ratio's as I am going to try and fire the recent acquisition. Have the oil ratio requirements changed in the last 50 years. Thru exhaustive research we have determined we are working on a 700E direct reversing engine. For this vintage motor are we correct in assuming that the fuel mix is 50-1?

My 700E ran fine on 50:1 over 20 years ago and the oil nowadays is even better than the TCW-I or II oils that they had at that time. <br /><br />Just try to stay away from gasohol fuels, or if you have to use them get a water-separator filter. <br /><br />Gas, 2-stroke oil, alcohol, and water don't make a good combination! And you know what an affinity alcohol-blended fuels have for water.<br /><br />HTH........ed

on the east coast theres no way of staying away from ethanol mixed fuel unfortunatley

Manual mixing is prone to errors and memory failures. Do yourself a favor and remove the manual process and install a VRO

Just wanted to say that this thread really helped me this weekend. I stopped at the gas dock to fill up my 6 gallon tank and accidentally topped it..as in no room for oil. I knew what I had left from the "old" gas, and tipped the tank to the point where I got *some* oil in, but my quick calculation told me I was at about 80:1 instead of the target 50:1. <br /><br />Then I remembered this thread.<br /><br />So I put the tank back in the boat, putted out to open water, played for about 15 minutes to run the fuel out of the top of the tank and mixed the rest of the oil as soon as there was room.<br /><br />thanks guys!<br /><br />Nikko
