I agree ball joints should have greese fittiings, however all manufactures are removing them because consumer reports grades manufactures on maintenance, and "lubed for life" is good for ratings where a greese zirk is bad for rattings.

Never have liked Consumer Reports.

Did you know that ball joints in Rams are loose from the factory? If they go out of spec by a couple thousandths more, they're supposed to be replaced. Not sure if the other manufacturers are the same way...

In Canada, both Ford and Dodge offer a heated Tailgate as an option. Really helps keep your hands from freezing when pushing them down the road.

My two are cummins. I'll never own a gasser again.

Brother has my 03.

Current is 05 Laramie and nice interior, just about to break it in, it has 98k miles. Not sure the numbers, but this one has a lower geared rear end which makes a diff.

Ford (a while back) in an attempt to get more thru-put on the assembly line opened up the camber / caster and toe specs on their trucks and vans from a 3 deg +/- 1/2 degee to a 0-8 degree window. So while everything meets spec, they would still tear up tires. A TSB was released for tire wear to set the alignment. Not a spec change, a TSB so the customers still need to pay for it.

Another thing to look at is safety. As an autobody tech for the last 30 years. I would stick with either chev or dodge. The new fords don't hold up. A hit on a panel which would be about a 2 hour repair on a chevy or dodge would be about 4 or 5 on a ford. Not to mention most body shops are not qualified to repair aluminium. It maybe military grade on fords but its not military thickness. Its paper thin and you can tear it with your hands.

I've driven every make of truck in the last 46 years including an International Harvester. My last choice is Dodge. Based on having one and watching them towed. The Dodges are pretty though, I want a truck if I wanted a sports car I will buy one. Chev Silverado is my first for a 1/2 ton. GMC Sierra for a heavy duty 3/4 and up. I have seen some new 1/2 tons that don't have leaf springs, Chevys do. I'm old fashion I guess.

Of course not. Chrysler hates them too!

Funny guy! Did I mention they slammed a Vette one time. That was the last time I picked up a mag..... How dare they slam a Vette!

Buy a RAM/Ford for work and a Chevy for creature comforts...... Although, the others have pretty much caught up in the comfort area too.....

There were many Vettes that sucked. They started making them for old men and made the suspension soft. And talk about creaking!

Up until recently, Dodge had the most plain jane interiors of all the trucks. They didn't put much engineering money into their interior design for many years.

I used to have Dodge Van at work, nearly died in it, It was certainly plain, but the powertrain was bulletproof

years ago i had a 1990 F150 5.0 4x4. bought it in 1991 with about 20000 miles. got 8 MPG and used a quart of oil every 800 miles. called the dealer and they said it was normal??? i told them i build race engines and there was no way they would pull that one on me. so another dealer told me they used low friction rings and it caused a bunch of blow by. so they rebuilt the engine with about 30000 miles and i had a noise in the rear end. they found a leaking rear axle seal. they then said they drained it and found the lash on the rear gears was set wrong from the factory. they said they re-set the lash. i told them you could not do that once a pattern is set. they said ford would not pay for new gears, only to re-set the lash. i got about 11 MPG after the rebuild but still went through a quart about every 1500 miles. traded it in with about 40,000 miles

next truck was a 1992 F150 5.0 4x4. not much trouble with this one. next was a 1991 F250 5.8 4x4. not much trouble with this one either

next was a 1994 F250 460 4x4. bought with about 20,000 miles. about a week later the radio quit working. that first winter the 4x4 quit working. if it sat more than 2 days the battery would go dead. put locking hubs in to fix the 4x4. the other items they looked it over a few times and couldn't find anything wrong. took it to Nags Head and went through 6 quarts of oil down and back from Pittsburgh. traded it in with about 45000 miles.

bought a brand new 1996 ford windstar. 70000 miles blew a head gasket and the rear window quit working. found they recalled up to 1995 for the head gasket but added a spacer or something to reduce heat on the head or something. anyway, the problem still existed. i called ford in detroit and their attitude was 'too bad for you'. very rude about it over the phone.

needless to say i will not buy another ford. i have had more that were junk than i have had that were good (also had a 1999 crown vic police interceptor but had no issues). didn't have much of a choice as i used it for law enforcement and prisoner transports and needed the equipment

i grew up a GM fan but their engines are lacking. my dad had a 2003 1500 4x4 with a 5.3 and couldn't pull his 24' boat with it. he had to borrow my trucks until he bought a 6.0. can't really say much about the newer ones though. the hemi seems to have the best power with the best fuel economy of all the trucks. i gre up hating mopar and hemis but it seems to be the best choice right now and i have been happy with mine

Pulls mine up to Lake Tahoe but it's at its limit. Wish it had the 6.0. I have a 3.73 in the rear which may be lower than what your dad had.

You mean old men like us????? Ya, there's Vette's that I don't care for either. One of the things CR was complaining about at the time was the poor gas mileage. Really? It's a Vette, who cares! But anyway.......
