raising transom height

I have a open LU CRAFT boat that I need to raise the transom to accomidate the newer motors with 20 inch lenght. I need to raise it approx 5 inches. The exsisting transom is in good shape. I will be putting on a 40 hp motor max. If anyone has did something like this please reply

Sounds like you don't own a motor yet?? If not,buy a short shaft motor.

I had a riser block built for my transom. It lifted the motor 6" total making the cavitation plate even with the bottom of the boat. I've thought about raising the entire transom. To do so, it would have to be dismantled, and replace the wood inside, and just cut it at 20" instead of 15".

Well that may be fine for a trolling motor but you are inviting a SEVERE accident if the original poster want's to do that with a 40 HP.

Absolutely not acceptable for a real outboard

word.... just get the right engine for the boat

Bob.... look at the pic..... he's been running an outboard of some sort on there... the aluminum is dented from it... I sure hope it's a really small one.

I've been running a homemade plate just like clarkbre's for over 4 years-holds a 35 hp Johnson on my 14' Lund just fine. I'd have much rather had a short shaft motor though-but I found the 35 longshaft for $200 at a yard sale,couldn't pass it up!
